My Students

Today's students live in a world driven by technology. My at risk student population has little to no technology exposure at home. Therefore, it is critical to have access at school. Student success increases when tools such as the iPad and the multitudes of applications they run are available.

My students are no longer passive recipients but rather active participants in their own learning.

Our classroom is highly mobile with a variety of activities, lessons and engagement occurring simultaneously around the room. We have cooperative learning groups which maximize our education and encourage students to support each other in their learning.

My Project

With the use of the iPad mini, student engagement, motivation and creativity will be increased in our writing lessons. The writing applications available for children in the first grade are amazing. These apps allow students to choose from a variety of topics, colorful graphics, practice writing structure with the use of keyboarding, read to record the audio of their writings and to publish their works. Students can make individual books and group projects as well as share them with their parents.

For many children in low income populations, writing is viewed as a mundane, boring and often difficult task.

It is my belief, the iPad takes student composition to new exploratory, interactive and creative levels. It offers opportunities for relevant and personalized lessons which can only increase student interest and academic growth.
