Creative Play Creates Lifelong Learners

My students need a Favorite Action Games Set, a set of Classic Games for Beginners, a set of Sight-Word Bingo Games and a set of Classroom Floor Puzzles.

The special needs students that come to the learning center range from kindergarten to sixth grade and are part of a high-need community struggling to provide the basic needs to it's students.

Many of my students have difficulties staying on task and completing their work. Some have ADHD, some are 1.5 years or more behind in their reading and/or math and have learned misbehavior. Many of them have lost the desire to learn and may have never felt the joy to be found when learning. By providing purposeful incentives, rather than prizes, for the students I hope to rebuild their intrinsic desire to learn and succeed.

I have created a behavior system that allows students to earn 'free time' for sustaining proper behaviors. I want this free time to be purposeful - providing them fun while reinforcing needed academic skills. Puzzles are an excellent free-time activity that benefits students who have fine-motor difficulties, visual-spatial issues and reinforces many reasoning skills. Games provide a way for Autistic, and other students with social concerns, to learn how to interact with other students while reinforcing academic skills. Children love to play and providing them with productive play encourages social and academic growth.

Your help with this project will ensure that my students have a variety of puzzles and games to choose from while encouraging them to focus on their work for extended periods of time.
