My Students

My students' favorite center in the classroom is the writing and art center. Their writing has dramatically improved since adding the arts to their literacy activities.

My students are identified with special needs and are in a self-contained classroom to support behavioral challenges.

We are in a high poverty, suburban school district. It is a K-5 building servicing regular education students and housing a district behavioral program.

My Project

Since adding the writing/art center to our classroom, literacy skills have improved. Most importantly I have seen the love of learning and writing come alive. I am requesting paintbrushes, dot art painters, paper rolls, and other materials; these resources will enhance our center, especially the paint. Students love expressing themselves through a variety of avenues other than paper and pencil.

Supplies requested are needed to help enhance Common Core literacy and math skills.

All art supplies are readily available to students to express their learning through art projects either through independent exploration or guided projects. Some supplies are needed to to enhance direct instruction, such as the calendar projects.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
