Creating Videos, Making Learning Meaningful

My students need a camcorder and a tripod for the opportunity to create, record, and view presentations to aid in their language and technological development.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"It doesn't matter, it's not like it's real." Creating the spark that drives creativity and imagination can be difficult with students who do not get the chance to see the fruits of their efforts.

I work with students who are low level English Language Learners.

Often, they spend time in classes learning a language that they never get to apply. In my class, we speak, read, write, and create. What the students are missing is the opportunity to see themselves and their peers perform. This would give them the ability to both self- and peer-assess and turn every presentation into an opportunity for language growth and development.

My Project

I am requesting a video camera and tripod to allow me to record and play back presentations to my students. For example, a unit on westward expansion culminates with a commercial in which students persuade pioneers to move west. Having a video camera would allow the students to see themselves and their peers and thus create a more meaningful learning experience.

It is impossible to describe the impact the ability to see a completed assignment would have on my students.

The chance to see themselves using the English language to create is an opportunity that my students would be extremely fortunate to have.
