My Students

Students with autism struggle with sensory regulation, which interferes with their ability to concentrate, interact, and learn.

I teach 6 students with autism in an elementary school in a high-needs community.

The students are all five-six years old, and this is their first year in our school. In the past 4 months, I have noticed that my students experience many sensory issues. They need different sensory activities throughout the school day. Day to day activities that seemingly take little effort to you and me can become incredibly overwhelming for my students.

My Project

My students need various sensory activities throughout school day. Sensory activities will help the kids calm down and focus. If they are not overwhelmed by sensory issues, they can focus on classroom activities and learning tasks. I am asking for one of sensory resources that will provide sensory input to the students, allowing them to learn. The sand box will provide touch input that calms students, allows them to sit still for longer periods of time, and focus on other tasks

Sensory input resources can be very expensive, and are not provided for in the school budget.

Your help will ensure that students with autism will receive the sensory regulation they require in order to learn in an optimal environment.
