This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The world of scientific research is field with wonder and excitement. However, as a former researcher I noticed that I was usually the only American and only African American working in the lab. I want to encourage my students to embrace science and find real joy in discovery.
My students are overwhelmingly African American in which 80% live at or below the poverty level.
The school is in the heart of a major urban city in TN with limited industries for employment. Many of the students attend college or technical school despite their circumstances. They are hard workers making the best of their current situations.
My Project
It is extremely important to use a refrigerator and freezer in replicating life science experiments. I want my students to do real science and to create original research projects. They need a way to store chemicals and specimens in order to complete the many projects that they come up with in the Biology and AP Biology courses.
By funding this project, you will be contributing to the creation of the next generation of scientists.
These students will discover the real joy of science and hopefully make this a life long pursuit.
