The purpose of this project is to provide lab kits to all Advanced-Placement Biology students to conduct laboratory investigations to complete the requirements of the Advanced-Placement Biology Curriculum. The students will use their kits independently and in corporate groups to develop a better understanding and application of biological concepts. This project will serve all students enrolled in the Advanced Placement Biology class (seniors who perform above standard proficiency level). Sixty-four percent of our student population is white, thirty five percent is black and only one percent is Hispanic. The gender composition is fifty percent male and fifty percent female. In accordance with the Federal Child Nutrition guidelines, 64% of our students qualify for free or reduced priced lunch. The goals for this project are: * To demonstrate a better understanding of biological concepts through laboratory experience. * To improve investigation skills and proficiency level. * To develop an understanding of enzymes, mitosis and meiosis, and plant pigments and photosynthesis. This project will address the needs of students by providing access to appropriate lab kits designed for the Advanced Placement Curriculum. These kits are a requirement for class participation and are utilized all year as a teaching tool as well as on the Advanced Placement Exam.
