My students need binders for organizing reading/writing strategies, different genres to read, book bins to house the books for our library, and cardstock for projects.

My Students
Instilling a love for reading and writing in my students is my ultimate goal as an educator. Through daily Reader's and Writer's workshop I hope to open the eyes of my students so they will see themselves as good readers and authors. I hope to provide a literacy experience that they've never had.
I teach 4th grade students.
Most of my students are at risk due to academics, low SES, or language and have been in our school from Kindergarten to 4th grade, but we get lots of transfer students as well. Our school is the biggest elementary school in the district. The school in which I work is a Title l school in which most of the students are on free and reduced price lunch. There is not much parental involvement once the students reach 3rd/4th grade and because of the low SES of most of the students, getting necessary supplies throughout the school year is difficult. The students in my school are pretty well behaved with very little to no behavioral issues and the attendance rate is very high. So, providing students with a full, in class, literacy experience for the short time that I have them is important to me.
My Project
I teach 2 fourth grade classes. I am requesting student binders for Reader's and Writer's Workshop. There are several reading genres and many strategies that we learn throughout the year in order to help become better readers of those genres. In order for students to keep up with the genres and the strategies in which to better read, there will be a section in their binders for "Reader's Workshop Strategies" where they keep reading strategy information and all graphic organizers that will assist in reading. Likewise, there will be a "Writer's Workshop" section of the binder in which to keep writing strategies and graphic organizers to help them become authors. This binder will be very interactive and will be used throughout the day, every single day. Having an abundance of library books in the classroom in which to practice reading strategies during reader's workshop and model author's craft during writer's workshop will help to create a classroom of readers and writers.
These donations will help me to better equip my students with the tools to become better readers and writers.
Having interactive binders/notebooks as a readily available resource in which my students can refer to whenever creating reading or writing projects is something they've never been exposed to in the past. Providing them with a multitude of books from a variety of genres will give them a wider reading experience which will in turn give them wider experiences in which to model writing.
