Cooking Up Something Good

My Students

I'm trying to teach my students how to use the easiest and least expensive kitchen gadgets - a blender and a hand mixer.

My students are 7th and 8th graders in a high poverty school.

Many of my students have to cook and prepare their meals on their own. Having spent a few weeks in my class, they are becoming more familiar and comfortable with different methods of cooking.

My Project

Other than a stove and a few crock pots, I do not have any kitchen equipment to use in my class. I'm asking for 6 blenders and 6 hand-mixers. My goal is to teach students how to use these simple kitchen gadgets to make a variety of dishes. I picked only these 2 pieces of equipment because most students have at least one of them at home.

Their interest and curiosity with cooking has increased, and I want to be able to help ignite that curiosity.

I want to show my students that they can create great meals without having all the fancy kitchen gadgets. However, I need these 2 kitchen gadgets in order to accomplish that.
