Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Did you ever have trouble learning to read? My students struggle with reading and are often not motivated to learn. Research shows that exercise significantly improves physical health and improves learning. Integrating technology and physical activity will excite my students and help them learn.

My class consists of 87 students from Kinder through 3rd who struggle with reading.

Most of them have attention issues and are performing below grade level. We are a Title 1 school with high English Learner population. The students come from diverse backgrounds and have a wide range of learning needs. We are an urban school located in one of the largest school districts. Our faculty is a group of dedicated educators who are constantly thinking outside of the box of how to improve instruction and student learning. Many of our students do not have funds to purchase this kind of equipment in their homes, so they would be highly motivated to get involved. In addition, many of our students are not active during recess time and struggle with physical fitness.

My Project

Integrating technology into the classroom instruction significantly increases student engagement and learning. My students need a high interest interactive activity that will not only get their bodies moving, but their minds moving. I feel that using the Kinect prior to lessons will help the students become more focused and prime the brain for learning. Research shows that the brain is more receptive to learning after physical activity. The Kinect will provide my students with a motivating physical activity that will help them reach their reading goals.

Think of the possibilities that the Kinect can provide for my students. Using the Kinect and Dance Central my students will learn more easily, have increased concentration and have less stress in the classroom. The Kinect will offer them a fun and exciting way to get ready to learn.
