Completing the Earth Puzzle: Alternative Energies in Action
My students need the energy conversion kit, 2 solar kits, 2 photon racer kits, 2 alternative energy kits, and others to make energy resources and conversions come alive; for most middle school scientists, seeing is believing!
Have you heard about the resource crises in the world today? It is so important that we engage and challenge the scientists of the future to take hold of the energy resource challenge and mold a greater future as they embrace and grasp energy conversions! This challenge begins today.
My students are inquisitive 8th graders living in rural Georgia.
We are a Title I school and have a population of about 500 middle school students. The economy has struck our community hard! As our community members lose employment and our schools continue to lose funding due to budget cuts, we strive even more to excite and challenge our students and provide them with something that no one can take away...an education! Because we live in a rural community, many of our students do not get to experience the technological advancements that are experienced in larger communities and cities throughout the US. In fact, many of our students have never left our small community.
My Project
By providing our 8th grade students the opportunity to experience alternative energy forms, we will allow them the opportunity to not only embrace the known but be enticed by the challenge to create the new. The best way to think outside the box is to never crawl in it. Our students will be able to grasp the concepts more readily by seeing energy conversions in action and then using their creative juices transform that knowledge into new ideas and concepts for the energy conversions that they now will better understand.
Science without teaching and learning tools would be much like going to Disney World and not being able to hear the music and sounds or see the bright colors of the fantasies that abide there.
For teenagers of rural communities, seeing truly is believing! Please help our students believe through experimenting and challenging their learned ideas. They want so much to learn more about physics and energy, but we so limited. Please help us break down those barriers and see what Science is!
