Compassionate Kids Campaign Helps Cancer Patients

My Students

Albert Pike once said, "What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal." Please provide my students the opportunity to leave a legacy of compassion in our community by donating to this special project.

At the beginning of the year, my sixth grade students are sometimes rambunctious, selfish, and ungrateful.

I created the Compassionate Kids Campaign to instill a love for service in my learners. After reading the novel "When One Door Closes," my students and I will discuss what a physical, emotional, and financial toll cancer takes on patients. Then, I will to challenge my students to help young people who are are "worse off" than they are.

My Project

Students will be asked to use cameras to take still photographs for posters, as well as create commercials from videos to persuade our community to donate money for cancer patients. Students will use the requested ink and photo paper to print out their inspirational pictures for donation posters. The kids will use their videos to create persuasive donation commercials, which will be shown to the community. The kids will then keep track of the money we have raised for our local cancer organizations in spreadsheets. After money is collected for a few weeks, the donations will be presented to a local cancer organization during a special ceremony.

It is so important for my sixth graders to learn community service and the importance of giving to those less fortunate.

This will be the third year for this project, and it has been an outstanding success thanks to amazing donors like you! Over $3000 has been raised for our local cancer organizations and we are eager to do more. Please teach my incoming sixth graders how to be compassionate and caring members of society and make a difference! Thank you!
