Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Are you ready for Common Core? It's a common question these days for teachers of all grade levels. I am trying to implement strategies that turn my classroom into a "Learning Lab" where students are engaged in high-level critical thinking activities, working together to discover mathematics.
The students at my high school are mostly low-income, first generation learners.
Many are learning to speak English as they navigate high school. They are smart, inquisitive, and eager to learn, but need extra support in a lot of different areas. Most students who graduate from our high school will become the first in their families to go to college.
My Project
The supplies I'm requesting are going to be used to implement Common Core State Standard strategies. The laminating machine and card stock will be used to create games and activities that groups of students can work on together. The poster paper will be used by students to solve problems that can be presented to the whole class. The batteries will be powering our graphing calculators so students can discover properties of graphs and equations. All of these supplies will allow students to work independently and in teams, empowering them to take charge of their learning in order to become critical thinkers.
These supplies will help begin the process of transforming my classroom into a learning lab.
Students will have more hands-on, real-world experience with the mathematical content and will be able to use the concepts in a wide variety of situations.
