My Students

Quick! Close your eyes and think back to when you were in kindergarten. I bet one of the memories that flashed before you was playing in the kitchen area. Maybe you made it into a restaurant or played "family" with your friends.

My 22 kindergarteners are some of the most energetic, enthusiastic and hard working bunch of 5 years olds you will ever meet.

They put 100% effort into everything they do from reading to writing to building and playing. As an inner city school, we have very limited resources to purchase many of the "extras" that children love to use and play with to expand their imagination and creativity.

My Project

This kitchen would help add to the creativity and social play within my classroom. This dramatic play area would offer many opportunities for my students to expand their social skills and vocabulary by being able to role play family and restaurant situations. The kitchen we have in our classroom is over 20 years old and after many years of "love", it is starting to show its years of use; from doors that don't shut, missing handles and knobs and hinges that are beginning to falling off. This new kitchen will allow a safe area for the children to learn, play and foster their creativity.

As an inner city school, many of my students come from diverse backgrounds.

Some may not get opportunities to play and socialize outside of the classroom. This kitchen will allow me to have the resources I need to expand center and play time so it can be the most academic, creative, friendship building, fine and gross motor expanding, and fun time it can be!
