This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach fourth grade in a rural, low-income area of Northern California.

We are considered a Title I school as the vast majority of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. We have a very high percentage of ESL (English as a Second Language) students and most do not have access to digital tools at home.

My Project

Ollie is an agile, tubular robot that spins, drifts, and flips based on the programming of students. By using Ollie, students will have the opportunity to learn coding (to program the robot), engineering (to create ramps and tracks), and problem solving (to solve assigned challenges). These two Ollies will be part of our new classroom makerspace and will give students the materials they need to truly empower the meaning of 21st Century Learning! All the elements of a makerspace can be encompassed with Ollie: designing, building, coding, creating... making!
