My students need Dash Bots! Computer science and coding are our future. Dash bots (and accessories) are a fun way to integrate computer science in all core subject areas.

My Students

My students work collaboratively with tech tools every day. We are ready to take our computer science skills to the next level with the use of dash bots. These cute little robots will allow us to use coding skills to solidify concepts taught in other subject areas making learning come to life.

My students are a diverse and hardworking group of learners in a tiny school of less than 300 students.

These 3rd, 4th and 5th graders have a passion for knowledge and level of compassion that I have never seen in another class before. This year we have a student whose first language is ASL and the class has worked tirelessly to learn to sign so they can communicate with their new friend. We have other students whose learning challenges include things like Downs Syndrome, autism and dyslexia. The class amazes me at their ability to not only include everyone, but also help modify work to ensure that everyone is always part of the learning.

My Project

As we continue in our computer science education, I would like to help bring coding to life. Students have been practicing writing block code to complete challenges on the computer. I would like them to be able to use these block code writing skills to control the robots. With Dash Bots, the possibilities are endless. We can program our bots to travel on a map along the route that early explorers traveled. Math skills like measurement and angles can be used to successfully program a bot to maneuver through a maze. We can even dress bots up as our favorite characters and program them to interact with each other, making stories come to life.

Steve Jobs said it best when he said, "Everybody in this country should learn to program a computer...because it teaches you to think." Coding, more than anything else, has helped my students learn to debug, problem solve, adapt, edit, repair, try, persevere, persevere, persevere some more, and succeed.

They joy they get from completing a coding challenge is an accomplishment nobody can take away, and that is a learning experience that is hard to beat!
