This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Healthy children are successful learners. I am challenged every day to keep my classroom clean and germ free. We need cleaning supplies to conquer the germs and keep my students healthy and in school learning.

My school is in a large, urban school district with a low socio-economic status.

My classroom consists of 8 students with autism who have varying abilities and range in age from 4-8 years old. The focus of our day is on functional skills, communication, and social and behavioral skills. Two of my students are verbal, with the rest communicating through pictures and augmentative devices.

My Project

My students are eager and energetic learners. They have many sensory needs and we spend time in many different learning areas in our classroom. Several of my students have oral sensory needs and frequently have their hands, toys and classroom items in their mouth. I spend a lot of time wiping hands, tables, toys and classroom items trying to stop the spread of germs. Many of my students also suffer from allergies and come to school sneezing and coughing every day. Although we are working on building their skills, they currently do not know to cover their mouth when sneezing and/or coughing leading to germs spreading throughout the classroom. We are always washing surfaces to try to stop the spread of germs. Our school district does not supply us with cleaning supplies to keep our room clean and my parents face their own monetary challenges and most can't help with supplies. This becomes a costly battle for the school year. With your support we can win the battle and conquer the germs.
