Classroom Habitats

My students need to experience hands on habitats with the ant farm, hamster cage, and carnivorous plant terrarium.

My Students

A typical day in my classroom is loud and engaging. I teach language arts and science and I'm always looking for innovative ways to keep my students attention while keeping them engaged. By the end of the year, I'd like for them to love science.

My school is a title I school, which means over half of our population receive free and reduced lunch.

The students are very transient and come from low income families. The kids want to come to school everyday and take pride in our school. Traditionally, our students' weaker areas are math and science.

My Project

My students need to experience hands on habitats with the ant farm, hamster cage, and carnivorous plant terrarium. Who doesn't love hands on activities? My students will be able to gain greater understanding of habitats by taking care of animals and plants in our classroom on a daily basis. They will learn the needs of different plants and animals. My students sometimes lack motivation when it comes to getting work done. The different pets and plants will help serve as a motivating and engaging piece of my instruction.

This donation will help improve my classroom by enriching my students' learning experiences with real life experiences in taking care of pets and plants.

Habitats is a huge standard in 3rd grade, and they will learn a lot about what living things need in order to survive.
