Circuits, Engineering & Green Energy With STEM Lessons

My Students

My STEM classroom is taking the minds and dreams of students to places they never imagined or thought were attainable.

My school is a very diverse urban school with over 87% poverty.

The student population is the most challenging I have ever worked with, however once students are open to concepts they become incredibly devoted learners. The breakthroughs, "ah-ha" moments and loyalty of my students is what keeps me here and makes me love my job.

My Project

Many of my students are from multi-generation families with limited experiences beyond their neighborhood. Next year my school will add a course titled Energy and the Environment to our PLTW, STEM curriculum. In this college prep course students learn the value of engineering and conservation of our resources. A unit in the program is learning about different forms of energy, delving into what fossil fuels are used to produce this, how the power plants that produce it work and alternate forms of green power that may take their place, lessening the burden on our natural resources. By using the Snap Circuit kits in this grant the students will gain a concrete concept of how power is formed.

With a national shortage in the field of engineering introducing my students to the vastness of all the careers this field covers opens their minds to future careers they never knew existed.

Funding my project enhances student experience improving the chances of them entering a STEM career.
