This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach general music in an inner city public school in Indiana.

Our school has almost 800 students who are very much involved in the arts. We have a handbell choir, a folk dance team, a band, and a primary and intermediate show choir! We are a Title I school where every kindergarten through 8th grade student has free breakfast and lunch! My favorite day of teaching is Friday because it's then that I meet with my 4th-8th grade show choir! There are forty-eight students in this group, and they LOVE to sing and dance! They not only perform for our building, but they travel to other schools and perform for various events throughout the school year! Last year we were invited to perform at a High School Show Choir Invitational, and we also performed at the National Magnet Convention!

My Project

Thanks to DonorsChoose.org, the intermediate choir will be singing "Let's All Sing Songs from Glee." The accompaniments for all of our songs are on CD's. The students love to perform with these professional sounding accompaniments! They not only enhance their incredible voices, but also provide a high energy sound for their dance numbers! Many of my students are fans of the TV show "Glee." Even I don't miss an episode! The song-and-dance production numbers are what make "Glee" an entertaining TV show! My kids are singing several songs from "Glee" including "Jump," "Don't Stop Believing," and "Empire State of Mind." We want to look professional and fortunately, thanks to DonorsChoose.org, we will have top hats and gloves! To add to our costume, we would like to wear T-shirts with the Glee logo! This is an expense which the majority of my students cannot afford. I know how hard they work to learn the songs and the choreography. They also deserve to look professional!

My choir and our audiences would benefit greatly from having the "Glee" T-shirts!

DonorsChoose.org has made it possible for past choirs to put on incredible shows. We want this year's show to be one that my kids will always remember! I want them to feel proud of their singing, dancing, and their appearance! We can't wait to sing with GLEE! Thank you for considering our proposal!
