My students need musicians to help record the track, an engineer to mix the track, time in the studio to record, and download cards to help raise money for their cause.
Five years ago, after Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky visited our school, my students decided they wanted to help children gain rights around the world. Those students created an organization called ACT, or Aiding Children Together, which has grown each year into a successful service organization.
My students are extremely diverse.
There are over 40 languages spoken at our school. They are passionate and caring, and want to help others by making a meaningful difference in the world. As a social studies teacher, I get to teach about rights, reforms, immigration, conflict, bystanders and upstanders. I get to talk to my students about what it means to "matter". Because they know that they matter, my students also know that they can do something to make an impact. They know that they can make a difference. I'm so proud of everything they have done to help educate and fund raise for children, and I'm excited to see this project come to fruition so they can get their message to even more people. Each year I tell my students to, "Find your passion and ACT on it!"
My Project
The students will learn the process of producing a song. They will have real life experience with writing, recording, marketing, and then get to see the impact that they have made on others around the world. They will learn how small things can make a big impact on the world around them.
This project will help not only my students' lives, but also the lives of students half way around the world in Ghana.
My students get the opportunity to work with professional performers who were inspired by them to write a song about changing the world. They get to work in a real recording studio and hear their voices on a song that was made using their words. The students in Ghana will get the money raised from this song to continue their education and get the basic necessities to live.
