Robert Maynard Hutchins said, "The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives." My students need many tools to make sure they can educate themselves the rest of their lives.
Twenty-two, brand new, 1st graders walked into their class for the first time a week ago.
They have mastered the lunchroom and are working on the long school days. So many things are changing for them and they are also changing. Each child comes in with areas they excel and areas they struggle and I want to meet them where they are at. I have some who speak English as a second language and others who have breakfast and lunch provided at school for them. The great thing is, they all have the desire to learn and get the most of their 1st big year in school and I want to have all the tools possible to do that.
My Project
I am requesting quite the tool box of things to make sure my students will have the tools to learn. I'm requesting toner so that they may be able to print the books they create. I'm requesting 5 iPad cases so we can keep our iPads in good condition. I'm also requesting 1 more iPad to have enough for small groups and centers. We need more headphones for all the electronics in our class and some items to make sure they are charged when they're needed. I'm requesting 5 more Hokki stools to help my students who need to move while learning. All these items and some others will fill our tool box with the different tools we can use to meet each child where they are and help them grow and learn from that point.
My goal as a teacher is to prepare my first graders to be successful in the next 12+ years of their education.
I want them to love learning and be able to educate themselves throughout their lives. Every teacher and class needs multiple types of tools to reach each child and this project will help fuel our classroom with the things we need to be successful.
