This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Character Counts! Educating students about the importance of having good moral character is important and creates an exciting and comfortable learning environment. Students should feel empowered to go to school and be engaged in learning without fear or anxiety.

My students attend a public school with second through fifth grades.

They are very enthusiastic about school and are eager to learn new things about themselves and others. Many students are living in a socioeconomic disadvantaged area where they have to face many challenges. Bullying and making bad decisions with their peers are some of the biggest challenges that the children face in school. About 85% our students qualify for the free or reduced meal program. We are a Title I school and the students need support. Some of my students are struggling readers. The students are encouraged to be respectful and try to resolve conflicts peacefully. However, many students need help learning anger management strategies and treating others the way they want to be treated. As a result, starting a "Character Counts" program will help the kids be more aware of how to show empathy to others and create a safe and caring environment in our school.

My Project

The best way to promote good moral character is to educate students. The Tablet will give the students the opportunity to enjoy literature and do research on what morals and values they should strive to have. The books and activities will help the students gain knowledge and strategies on how to display good character and follow the "Golden Rule". As the guidance counselor, I will provide activities that will engage the students in social skills and teach techniques on how to display the appropriate ways of handling their feelings. The guidance activities will provide them with opportunities to work as a team and learn social skills through discussions and teamwork. This project will provide my students with the necessary facts on character education as well as the opportunity to be creative and present their ideas to their peers.

My goal is to encourage the students to be helpful and take steps to make the world a better place by showing compassion and empathy to others.

The students will also learn how to express themselves with their words and not their hands. Your donations will provide students with the necessary tools to promote positive moral character. You are helping to create young people to be empathetic and outstanding citizens!
