Celebrating Success In Reading

My students need books to bring home and read, including several themed sets, like Dinosaurs, Fairy Tales, Favorites, Easy to Read, and more, to further develop their reading and language skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember when you first learned to read? Or have you observed a small child read the pictures of a favorite book feeling like a confident reader?

My Reading Recovery students often enter the program with low confidence and language skills.

They may be children that have not been read to or have a book in their house. When I ask, "Who reads to you? or "What is your favorite book?" The answers are often, "No one," and "I don't know any books." My Leveled Literacy Intervention student's are those who are close to being on grade level. They just need a little more time and practice and they'll be there.

My Project

To be on grade level, my first grade students need to be reading at level 16 and my second grade students need to be reading at level 28 by the end of the school year. I will motivate my students to practice their reading more and celebrate their accomplishments by giving them a book each time they go up a level in reading.

Having books that the students get to keep and take home, will give them a collection that they can read during school breaks to help maintain or even increase their reading level.

The books will also enrich their language and thinking skills. Since they will be able to pick the books, it will also develop a love of reading and give them some good friends to have at home.
