Capturing a Taste of the World through Language Learning

My students need a document camera to improve student learning in my classroom and provide visual support to my English Language Learners and Special Education students.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine learning a second language without visuals and other ways of learning besides a textbook and a lecture? My students can't travel to parts of the world, but I can bring the world to them through an environment that is connected to 21st real world skills and visually stimulating.

I live in an urban school district in CT with my school having 40 percent English Language Learners and at least 200 identified special education students.

These students are wonderful. I teach a world language and ESL. My students, as well as my struggling learners, can use plenty of visual aid support in the classroom. I enjoy doing many cooperative group assignments where students research, discuss, and write about various topics, especially ones related to culture. Often times, we rely on students holding a chart paper in front of the room, not having enough room to present, students who are extremely shy or are reluctant to speak in the new language, to share their work with the rest of the class.

My Project

This document camera can provide my students with the ability to share their work so that the whole class can see, comment, discuss, praise, and analyze drawing, writing, group work tasks, documents, articles, pictures, etc. to make the classroom come to life. This camera also enhances my teaching so that I can utilize not only the text, but technology as 21st century skill. We are supporting and motivating students to post secondary education and the work force, so why not prepare them in high school for what they will encounter at college or the business world? My college classroom had one of these cameras and it was the greatest invention ever! With the high cost of ink and limited resources, the teacher doesn't have to focus on getting everyone copies or searching for chart paper for 5 different classes to make the lesson engaging and motivating.

My students are more likely to participate, engage, produce work, work with other students, and interact with the curriculum as a result of this addition to our classroom.

The possibilities are endless when I think about the uses of this camera to enhance my teaching and create an even more student focused environment in the high school setting, where our students need resources just as much as elementary or middle school students. Help my students! Be the change for our classroom! Gracias!
