This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"What a teaching moment!" This is what I say to myself every time I take my students to a spectacular birding location in May or September.
My students are an awesome group of sixth graders, who, despite economic challenges, have a strong curiosity about natural science.
I meet this desire with a strong focus on natural science in the lessons I teach. Donors Choose has already helped me to obtain a tour bus to take my students to one of the top birding locations in North America.
My Project
At this location, my students will be making observations of birds in their natural habitats. They will also be identifying these birds using field guides. They will learn how to effectively use the field guide in the field. Additionally, the students will discover how organisms with different adaptations live only in specific ecosystems which cater to those adaptations. the binoculars I am asking for are critical to this experience.
The grant you are considering will help my students to learn more about the natural world and encourage respect for the environment.
Additionally, working in cooperative groups in the field is very esteeming for students. That "teaching moment" I referred to earlier happens when students feel the sense of pride that goes along with learning something (species identification), and then taking that skill and utilizing it out of the classroom. Please help my students to achieve this satisfaction.
