My students need a coffee maker and an electric kettle to prepare beverages to sell to staff. My students need coffee and hot cocoa to use in the coffee maker and kettle.
I am the school librarian, and consider the library to be the best place in the building. My busiest time is first thing in the morning before home base. After that, students come on the own accord or with their academic classes.
The library is a safe haven for our students.
My students consist of 700 6th, 7th, and 8th-graders at a middle school.
Our students like to learn new things, and participate in extra curricular activities. They get excited about doing well in school and in sports. We have a variety of team sports and after school clubs. Our school has a warm, friendly atmosphere. The teachers and the students care about each other.
Our students share a tremendous feeling of school pride.
My Project
As a school, we are always looking for ways to promote collaboration among and between students and teachers. This creates and stimulates a rich learning environment. We want our students to have a strong set of life skills to enable them to be work-force ready.
That is where Cafe' Westside comes in. The students are creating a coffee shop within the media center. They are making a business plan, and are deciding how to promote, sell, advertise, and distribute the coffee each morning to our staff members.
They will learn how to make a budget that is directed by expenses and revenue. Over time, we want to expand the cafe to include bakery items and a variety of beverages.
We plan to use students to deliver the per-ordered drinks to the teachers each morning, before home base. They will be responsible for making the coffee and hot cocoa that your donations provide. We also plan to utilize our special needs students to help facilitate the acquisition of soft skills.
Cafe' Westside will benefit the entire faculty and staff members who enjoy coffee, cocoa, and other beverages that we create and sell.
Teachers will be able to start their mornings in a positive way.
Students will gain knowledge about how to start a business and sustain it. They will learn soft people skills, that will translate to a working environment, when they enter it in a year or two.
Cafe' Westside will support a positive school climate, that will extend to parents during parent nights.
