Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever been teased or called names? Have you ever had someone make fun of you for no reason? Have you ever felt helpless? I have been teased and bullied as a young student and I feel that it is important for my middle school students to learn how to deal with these situations in positive ways.

I teach in a low-income, high poverty middle school in Southern California.

Our school is a Title I school which means 100% of our students are part of the free breakfast and lunch program. Many of our students live in high crime neighborhoods and seem to becoming immune to the violence around them.

My Project

Having an LCD projector in the classroom will enable my students to view real life bullying situations and learn how to find positive resolutions. Hopefully my students will learn about compassion, good character, trust and self-esteem. Middle school is definitely the age where children struggle with identity. Perhaps if they learn how to communicate, they will save themselves a lot of heartache. Just as the words on my posters in the pictures are skewed, I think that the viewpoint of middle school students can also become skewed. I'd really like to guide them towards the road to success both in character and academics.

Because my students live in an ever-growing violent world, I would like to be able to show them there are ways to solve problems without bullying and violence.

By having an LCD projector, I will be able to have my students engage in conversations about positive solutions.
