My Students

For my students, living in a high poverty, inner city neighborhood presents some unique challenges to their lives. One of those challenges is the issue of bullying. As a school, we are fighting to create a school culture were bullying is nonexistent.

Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." -Howard Thurman This simple challenge is how my students and I operate on a daily basis. For my students, living in a high poverty, inner city neighborhood presents some unique challenges to their lives. However, we take pride in the challenges we face and celebrate them because we know that challenges produce perseverance, character, and hope for the future.

My Project

I am requesting funds for the entire 8th grade at my school to attend the new documentary Bully. The funds will provide admission for each student to see the movie and transportation to and from the movie theater. This movie will allow my students to see the damaging effects of bullying and will allow the entire grade level to begin having conversations about how we can be better scholars for our school, which will help build a stronger school culture.

This project is important for my students because as they continue to grow and develop, I want to make sure they are developing the right habits.

I want to make sure they are becoming respectful young men and women who will understand that their actions have consequences, both positive and negative. This movie will allow us to shape the culture of our school and make it a better and safer place for our students to attend.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
