Building Cultural Awareness Through Art

My students need art materials, such as People Paint and a Multicultural Crafts Project Box, to build an appreciation of diversity.

My Students

In order to continue building tolerance for diversity, we need to teach children that being different is okay!

My students live in a small town in a very rural, low-income area of Missouri.

Many of them have never had the opportunity to travel outside of their small town, and therefore, have not had the opportunity to learn about other cultures or be introduced to children of different backgrounds.

My Project

Our school is in a low-economic area that has little cultural diversity. Through this project, I hope to increase cultural awareness and broaden my students' knowledge of the world around them. I plan to use the "Continents of the World, United States, and Native American" project boxes to introduce the cultures, histories, and geographies of all seven continents. The Celebrations of the World and Multicultural Craft boxes, along with people colored cutouts, paint, and crayons will allow my students to explore the similarities and differences of people all over the world.

Teaching about diversity in a town that does not have very much diversity is a very difficult task.

I want my students to know that being different is great thing, and it makes our world an interesting place to live.
