My students need hands-on activities where they can work on letters, sounds, identifying words parts, rhyming words, and word building to help them become good readers with rubber stamps, activity tins and sorting centers.
My wish is for all of my kindergarten students to be successful and confident in their reading skills. I am hopeful that my students will be excited about working on reading skills and hope they look forward to working on word work everyday with the interactive materials we are able to provide.
I teach kindergarten in a low-income neighborhood school.
These children come to school so eager to learn and grow everyday. Our school and PTA do everything they can to support us but there is only so much "extra" money to be used for classroom materials. In a school with over 500 elementary students that money does not always go very far to purchase extra materials for us to use to enhance learning.
My Project
My students need hands-on activities where they can work on letters, sounds, identifying words parts, rhyming words, and word building to help them become good readers with rubber stamps, activity tins and sorting centers. My students will be able to use these classroom materials, manipulative's and games to practice and increase their reading skills. Students will be working together in small groups to practice kindergarten reading skills while helping and supporting each other. They will be gaining knowledge first about letter names and their sounds. Once they have gained mastery in letter knowledge they will move onto identifying and manipulating the letters and sounds in order to identify word parts, rhyming words, syllables and ultimately building words - both sight words and words that they can sound out.
Your support to this project will provide my kindergarten students with the opportunity to develop their reading skills independently and with their peers.
These games and manipulative's will be used during our center time as well as during guided reading with small groups of children. My hope is that they will be excited about working on reading skills with these activities and become independent readers and writers.
