My students need 6 Chrome books to complete a classroom set.

My classroom is a place were students can experience things that they never knew they would enjoy. They can work cooperatively to build free-standing structures out of unusual materials, design computerized presentations that include animations, conduct science experiments, and much, much more.
My students are imaginative, creative and willing to explore.
Each girl and boy are capable, despite their circumstances, to become great influences and assets to our state, country, and world. The potential and eagerness that they bring to my classroom, day after day, makes me want to expose them to so much more. Once I started teaching the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) curriculum, I realized that there were untapped areas that we (teachers) have been missing and that students can really shine when you meet them at their area of interest. I mostly credit my school, although located in a volatile area, for realizing the need to show care and concern for the whole child. We have a food pantry so we feed students regularly and monthly. We reach out to our families to let them know that we need them and respect the things they are doing to help their child(ren). I am so proud to work for a place that is committed to the safety, care and education of the children they service.
The new Common Core State Standards require the 5th grade students to take a final exam that spans about 6 hours long. This test is new to students and will require them to be proficient at not only the material being tested by the operation of the computers. For example, they must be able to operate a split screen, they must drag and drop, highlight/cut/paste items, etc. Unfortunately, the technology that our school currently has is limited and must be shared among many students of all ages. Another concern is that most of our students do not have access to computers outside of school. With the Chrome books, I will set up a technology center in my classroom in which students will have an opportunity on a daily basis to complete various tasks that will prepare them for the test which will ultimately define them. They will also be able to participate in more STEM capable activities and most of all be prepared to function in this ever-changing technological society.
Your donations will begin to even the playing field for my students.
They will be able to compete with their peers who have had certain advantages that maybe our students have not. Their self worth will be greatly improved due to the exposure that they will receive to a wealth of knowledge. Your donations will make my classroom a place where every child truly can learn and where their interests and strengths are championed.
