My students are imaginative, creative and willing to explore. Each girl and boy are capable, despite their circumstances, to become great influences and assets to our state, country, and world. The potential and eagerness that they bring to my classroom, day after day, makes me want to expose them to so much more. Once I started teaching the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) curriculum, I realized that there were untapped areas that we (teachers) have been missing and that students can really shine when you meet them at their area of interest. I mostly credit my school, although located in a volatile area, for realizing the need to show care and concern for the whole child. We have a food pantry so we feed students regularly and monthly. We reach out to our families to let them know that we need them and respect the things they are doing to help their child(ren).
