My Students

My students deserve a working microscope. Imagine how hard it is to use the Internet to see living organisms. It would be fantastic if my students were able to look at their own organisms versus looking at them from a video screen.

I teach in a rural school in Creek County, Oklahoma.

Our community is comprised of a low socioeconomic base with our school system having a poverty rate of 68%. My students deserve as good as education as those who live in more affluent areas. Our community suffered major loss last August when over 400 homes were burned in a raging wildfire. I want this school year to be amazing for my students. I want to give them opportunities for learning like they have never had.

My Project

We must watch videos of organisms under a microscope. Can you imagine how excited my students would be if they could look at things with their own eyes and prepare their own slides. We need a working compound microscope. The best way to learn something is to actually be engaged in the activity. I teach a small unit on Micro Worlds currently. I would love to expand this unit and incorporate many more things into the unit.
