Mrs. Rhodes from Ferguson MO is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need dry eraser markers for daily use during math, science kits to become better scientists and a pencil sharpener.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are greeted each morning with a fist bump, high five, or hand shake. They eat breakfast in the classroom and work on their morning Do Now. Some of them ask for seconds for breakfast, which I gladly oblige.
My students are African American students who come from low income families that are mostly headed by single parents.
Most of my students are several years below their current grade level in reading and math. My school is approximately 97% African American and the majority of the students receive free and reduced lunch. My school is one of the closest schools located near the protesting in Ferguson. My students are daily affected by the aftermath of the protesting in their community. I am amazed every day by their resilience through this difficult time.
The resources will help my students on a daily basis by providing them the opportunity to work in small groups and in pair and share. My students will benefit by using the dry erase markers in math on their daily spiral review. It will also allow me to quickly assess their understanding of concepts taught. The science kits will help bring science to life as my students learn and navigate the district's science curriculum. My students use color pencils and writing pencils every day in their math and science journals. Having the use of an electric pencil sharpener will enable my students to return to their assignments quickly.
Donations to this project will improve my classroom by increasing my students engagement when working with one another in small groups or pair and share.
My students' lives will change for the better as their confidence and understanding of the curriculum increases.
