My students are African American students who come from low income families that are mostly headed by single parents. Most of my students are several years below their current grade level in reading and math. My school is approximately 97% African American and the majority of the students receive free and reduced lunch. My school is one of the closest schools located near the protesting in Ferguson. My students are daily affected by the aftermath of the protesting in their community. I am amazed every day by their resilience through this difficult time.
