I am a thrilled to start my 6th year of teaching high school English and Literature. Over the past few years, I have been working to build an appealing classroom library for my students. So far, I have not gathered as many books as I would like to.
My students are in 9th grade and are new to the high school.
Our newly renovated school is located in central Pennsylvania. Each freshman student is currently enrolled in an English course as well as a Literary Seminar course. In their literature course, students are given the opportunity to select their own fiction and non-fiction texts.
My Project
I've found that in many cases, students dislike independent reading because they have not yet found their favorite book. For this reason, I am requesting books that are geared specifically towards the age group of my 9th grade students.
If a student has ease of access to an age appropriate book, they will be more apt to pick up a book that they will enjoy. I am also planning on using my classroom library for reading projects and book talks in which students will share their own interest for independent reading with their classmates and peers.
Your help if funding this proposal will ensure that my students will be engaged and involved readers.
With an accessible and larger classroom library, my students will be more likely to get their hands on a book that will capture and sustain their interest. The students will enjoy reading age appropriate and high interest books, and will share what they have read with classmates.
