Do you remember sitting on someones lap while they read you your favorite book? Well this listening station will create a similar experience for my students. The narrators often embellish their story telling skills and bring the story to life! Help my students share in this special experience!
I have a classroom full of energetic Second graders!
I had the pleasure of being their 1st grade teacher and will be looping with them into Second grade! They love reading alone, with a friend, being read too, and especially love listening to books on tape! Our school is in a high poverty area and has recently been in the path of natural disaster! The stress of situations at home and in our school community make it hard for some students to get time to read at home with a loved one. Many students in our district need extra exposure to reading at school and love the excitement of books of any kind!
We need a listening station to enable students of all levels to experience the joy of storytelling at its best! Often times books on CD have special music, sounds, different voices, and bring a story to life in ways many students don't get to experience. Books on CD allow students to follow along with the narrator. Following along and listening helps students learn new words, become more fluent readers, read with expression, and implement newly learned reading strategies. With your help my students will be able to listen to a variety of books on CD independently, enhance reading skills, and work on an array of new reading strategies thus becoming more fluent readers!
I am estimated to have 24+ students for the 2013-2014 school year!
This is my Second year teaching and my first year teaching Second grade! The only listening station I have access to is an old tape player and a cassette that follows along with our reading series! I know that this listening station will help create a special love of reading and books for my students that have not yet acquired this passion. Please help my students experience reading though this wonderful project!
