My Students

My first grade classroom was added this year to our school. We have had to build a classroom library where none existed before. Students are spending a lot of time reading everything I have in the classroom. However, we need to keep adding new books for them to read.

My first grade students are from an urban environment and LOVE reading.

They do Daily 5 everyday for at least 90 minutes, and wish it could be longer. They explore our classroom library for new books to read. Because they are in a newly created classroom, our classroom library is not as large as it should be. My students want more books to read as the year continues. I expect them to read 100 books each by the end of the year. Due to their varied interests, they need to have access to over 1,000 books in their classroom library.

My Project

I am requesting the first grade Common Core Exemplar texts to make sure my students are exposed to these grade level texts. They represent a variety of genres. These texts will ensure my students are reading appropriate level texts with adequate challenges and the literary depth required to master the new Common Core Standards.

High quality books are one of the greatest contributions a donor can make to a classroom.

These books will last for years and provide many generations of students the joyful experience of reading a great book!
