BOOKS For Equality, Learning, and Fun!

My students need books to get them excited about reading! The books I have in my classroom library are almost all old hand-me-downs. They also need privacy dividers.

My Students

I teach third through fifth graders who come from twelve different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. They attend a large elementary school and struggle to try to catch up with their peers academically.

Many of my 33 students are living in poverty and come from families who aren't able to purchase books for them or take them to the public library.

You should have seen their faces light up when I told them about Donors Choose and asked what books they would want for our classroom library if enough money were donated. They were all a buzz telling me what topics, titles, and authors they wanted me to ask for. I hope I will get to see their excitement as they open up a box of new books!

My Project

My students will use these books for independent reading time when they finish an assignment early or when they check them out to read at home. They may end up using some of them for research or other comprehension activities. The privacy dividers will be used during standardized tests and writing assessments. It will be a big help because the folders we use now are always falling down on them.

These books will get my students excited to read!

I'm most anxious for the nonfiction books because they have such a great impact on English learners' vocabularies. The privacy dividers will help students focus and do their best work.
