My Students

Help my students get ahead. As we move to the Common Core standards, my students need challenging high interest fiction and nonfiction books on a variety of reading levels. Having these books would help challenge my students to compare texts and think critically.

My students are sixth graders in a high poverty school in rural South Carolina.

They are great kids with amazing potential, but not many resources. Many of my students do not have someone to read to them at home, let alone access to books. These are great kids with a thirst for knowledge and a passion for learning.

My Project

Many of my students don't have someone at home to read with, let alone access to books. Expanding my classroom library with fiction and nonfiction books will allow my children to expand their knowledge of the world and be better prepared to take their place in it. With these books my students will be able to read, discuss, and compare not only literature, but historical events. We will be writing essays and doing book share projects with these books. These books will make way for class discussions, Socratic seminars, debates, and literature circles.

Having these books in my classroom will allow me to better prepare my students for the expectations of the Common Core standards.

Having these books will inspire a love of reading and maybe even give these students a hero or two along the way. Please help us!
