I teach a fourth grade and fifth grade multi-age classroom at an urban school district in Washington. Many students at our school come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and need all of the resources they can get at school!
I am a sixth year teacher needing some help to equip my classroom library with chapter books for my developing readers who need to continue being challenged.
I have a wide range of levels and a large group of advanced readers who need fourth, fifth, sixth, and even seventh grade level chapter books to keep them engaged!
My Project
In this project, I have requested a variety of chapter book sets so that I can have multiple copies for students to read during our books clubs/literature circles. Students will be meeting in groups with their own copy of the same book so that they read individually and discuss their thoughts on the story as it develops. Book clubs have worked successfully in my classroom in the past, and I see a huge benefit in seeing students learn how to discuss with each other about books and being able to share ideas or disagreeing thoughts in appropriate and polite ways. My students will be challenged greatly from books clubs, especially as they grow as readers and thinkers.
