C.S. Lewis once said, “You can make anything by writing.” Why not give our students an engaging writing experience from the very beginning of their education in order to instill in them a love for writing?
I teach 18 smart, funny, and lively kindergartners, including a few students with special needs, at a Title I school.
Most of my students have never stepped foot in a school before they come to my class in August. Close to 85% of our students also come from a low socioeconomic background. However, these "obstacles" do not stop me from challenging my students or keep them from being excited about learning!
My Project
Remember how cool it was to write with disappearing ink as a child? My students will be able to write on their Boogie Boards and make the words disappear with a click of a button, "Abracadabra!" How cool! My students will be so engaged when writing on these boards that they won't even realize that they are working and learning!
These Boogie Boards will be used in many different ways. We will use them to practice handwriting, as well as word and sentence writing during small group instruction. Students will also be able to use the Boogie Boards during center time for several different activities. They can write the room, record their answers to different center activities, practice spelling and sight words, and so much more!
These Boogie Boards will be such a great addition to my classroom.
Not only will they save trees by taking the place of paper in different areas of the classroom, but they will also be a tool used to engage my students. Research says, the more engaged a person is, the more likely he or she will will learn!
