My students need 4 Chromebooks and 4 headphones with microphones in order to complete tasks that will coincide with our effort to become a full blended learning classroom.
As we move further into the computer age, my students are stuck with decade old desktop computers that rarely connect to the Internet. I am working toward integrating more technology into my classroom in order to help students achieve the necessary computer skills to become lifelong learners.
The students in my class this year came in with many deficiencies in reading and math.
With extra support and a few donated computers, I was able to ignite an excitement for learning while re-teaching the necessary skills my students were lacking. Unfortunately, my school does not meet the requirements set for by our district to receive extra funding for new computers or any other technology that would benefit our students. Even though the students are as needy as those in surrounding schools, we just don't get the funding needed to obtain the extra resources that are required to keep a love of learning instilled in all students.
My Project
As we move further into the age of the Internet, students need immediate access to technology that can take them places. The computers that we have access to at this time are over ten years old and often do not connect to the Internet. A lot of what I wanted my students to work on this year in centers and in group work was internet based. We used such online learning tools as Moby Max, Edmodo, Brainpop and many more. It was difficult at times to have all of my students access the necessary curriculum to keep up with what we were working on. With 4 new Chrome Books and the headphones with microphones, my students will be able to access the sites that I had mentioned, as well as a new site that I just learned about called Literably. This online tool will allow students to read a text aloud and record their fluency and comprehension.
Your donations will allow my students this year and in the years to come access to computers that will allow them to get online and complete assignments.
It will also give them the necessary Internet access to become true blended learners and not just stuck in the brick and mortar classroom. As I have learned over the past several years in my teaching career many students excel with the standard way of teaching, however many students thrive when given access to computers and the internet.
