I teach in an inner-city school in Pennsylvania with a high incidence of poverty. We now go up to 8th grade so conceivably I could have kids in my guitar program from 4th through 8th grade eventually. There are no music stores in the area nor lessons available other than 6-7 spots with the instrumental music teacher who comes once a week. Seven out of 450 students get a free instrument and lessons funded by the School District. My after school class services 14 students currently with the potential only limited by the number of instruments available.

With the ten Little Kids Rock guitars and 4-5 for some of my older students, it's still not enough. The problem is - the ten students from last year (now 6th graders) are extraordinarily talented in guitar and I can't accommodate all who would like to remain in the program this year because of lack of guitars. The big kids have already volunteered to help the younger ones get their feet wet and have been to my classroom several times already this year asking "When do we start?" I'd give my eyeteeth to have them continue with the program but I need more guitars!

If I had more guitars, I could guarantee my last year's super-talented students a spot in the class and watch them grow in talent, write songs, and perform happily. Of those ten, five performed with distinction on our state test. I believe that the music instruction made a difference in their academic abilities.

Your contribution could help us continue to grow the Arts program at our school through the Little Kids Rock program and make ten very talented students happy to continue with their lessons this year. Otherwise, they might not get the chance again.
