Big Hearted Teacher With A Lackluster Library!

My students need a classroom library of 49 books such as "Fancy Nancy: Bonjour, Butterfly" by Jane O'Connor that includes beginning reader text as well as grade appropriate text.

I am first year third grade teacher in a public school in the state of Colorado.

I am a first year teacher who desires a rich classroom library, but lacks the resources necessary to fulfill this dream. My classroom library is currently very limited, and it saddens me to imagine that my students are not expanding their minds in the way I would hope for them, purely because there is a lack of funding. My goal is to provide a classroom rich in literature for all reading levels, so that each student, no matter their capacities, has the opportunity to understand the world more fully.

The resources I need for my classroom are authentic rich literature that is available to them at their finger tips. The classroom library allows students to switch out books quickly, discover new interests and borrow and read them in a friendly environment. I am in need of beginning reader level books that are of high interest to my students who are working on improving their reading ability.

What is the greatest gift you could give a child? Instill in them a desire to expand their mind and understand the world in a more comprehensive way. What is one of the best ways to launch this? Literature. Children, through reading, not only increase their literacy, but expand the capacity of their consciousness. Through non-fiction, they not only learn about various world subjects, but also how to remember, recall, and apply the information read. Through fiction, children learn how to imagine things outside of the tangible, and use those creative skills in all other facets of their lives. Thus, in order to truly provide a child with unlimited resources, it is imperative that a teacher provide a large, comprehensive library of literature.
