Basic Supplies for a New Orleans Classroom!

My students need basic supplies such as notebooks, pencils, markers, sanitizing wipes that, due to the low socio-economic status of their families, they are unable to buy and replenish throughout the year.

Our 4th grade class at Lafayette Academy Charter School has a desire to learn that reaches beyond their lack of the necessary resources.

However, most of our students' education has been highly disrupted for the past two years due to Hurricane Katrina-related obstacles. Our fourth graders are part of high-need families, whose parents are unable to purchase basic supplies. Notebooks, pencils, red pens and other basic classroom needs are difficult to replenish throughout the school year due to the inability of families to afford such items.

A classroom set of basic supplies for both individual students, and for the class to share, would dramatically ameliorate the problems some of our children face in completing quality work. Additionally, the classroom environment would benefit greatly by the availability of basic supplies. These resources will allow our fourth graders to focus more on learning and achieving, than on finding a pencil or notebook to use...

Support for this project would mean that you would be alleviating the common problem of limited resources for a post-Katrina New Orleans classroom. Children still living in trailers and dealing with obstacles at home should be able to come to a safe-haven at school where they are given every equal chance to receive a quality education. Help make this happen by ensuring that our classroom is supplied with all of the essentials. Thank you!
