This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like to be able to have the latest educational tool in your school? Unfortunately, due to the times, our school cannot afford anything but the bare necessities.

The floor that I work on is a special education only floor in Brooklyn, New York.

We have students with a wide range of disabilities that range from Autism, learning disabled, and physically disabled. We currently have computers and a smart board but no speakers or headphones. This request will be used not only for my class but for my entire floor. We have many students that need to use audio books and have no headphones to listen to them. It becomes a huge distraction when it is played out loud and everyone has to listen to the audio book. We also use the smart board frequently and we have to use the computer speakers that are part of the laptop. The volume does not get loud enough for everyone to listen. We will also use it as a motivational tool for our power of choice program that rewards students for showing overall educational progress. We can use it to show school wide movies and other school wide events.

My Project

We currently have a smart board, laptops and audio books but no way to listen to them. Our students would use the headphones in a variety of ways. They can use them for audio books, educational geared material that is on the Internet, and for our power of choice program. The power of choice program is a daily point system that rewards our students at the end of the week for giving excellent effort, showing good behavior and decision making, transitioning throughout the day properly, and overall displaying of progress. If these things are met, students are able to go to a club of their choosing, one being a movie and computer club where they engage in a wide variety of computer games, and a movie of the week.

My students needs headphones for audiobooks and speakers for our smart board and projector for our Power of Choice program.

Any donation would be met with great appreciation and admiration.
