My Students
What was the first news headline you remember reading?! Most of my students have not yet discovered a news headline in printed version.
My students come from neighborhoods where the majority of their families have never ventured outside of our town.
Our school is highly populated and serves over 49 percent free/reduced breakfast and lunch. My students are excited about knowledge and eager to learn. Their lack of experience and opportunity within the community makes me desperate to bring the news to them!
My Project
Time for Kids weekly readers will make the news REAL to my students! As a teacher, I can imagine the excitement on each of their faces as they see updated news stories on a regular basis. I am excited to see the wonder in their eyes and the connections in their brains as the world is brought to their fingertips! My students will learn valuable lessons as they gain information from nonfiction text in all forms (font size and color, charts, graphs, photographs, captions, bold text, underlined words, and more)!
Of the fifty students that enter my classroom door each day, I'd say at least forty of those students have never experienced the impact of real-world headlines.
Many elementary students rarely have the opportunity to see life outside of their small community! Please help me bring excitement and passion of reading to my students' lives through news headlines!
