This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Award-winning playwrights! Writers Guild mentees! Our students are truly talented writers and playwrights with a growing track record of success. In our playwriting lab, the writers conduct workshops to revise their work -- meaning they often need last-minute print-outs of their revised writing.

My students are from the poorest neighborhood in our city, in fact the poorest congressional district in our country, where resources are scarce.

Oftentimes, the school's printers are broken. Most students do not own printers or cannot afford the high price of ink. The goal is a self-contained writing lab where aspiring playwrights and all writers can follow through with every step of the writing process -- from brainstorming to revision to editing to publishing.

My Project

This is your opportunity to help young writers achieve their lofty goals. Last year several playwrights from our school were finalists in a national contest, an accomplishment that led to many other opportunities such as participation in a mentoring program at the Writers Guild. The only drawback from lack of resources --the process was impeded often when kids did not have the ability to print their work. The result was that many times they were unable to share drafts with fellow workshop members, holding up the creative process.

Please help these talented young writers get their work out into the world.

Feedback from the outside world helps them see themselves as valid and vital, and encourages them to go out beyond their "bubble" of school life and home. The success they achieve in the outside world now will inspire them to continue working in this manner for years to come.
